Native to various parts of Asia (China, Japan, Korea, Sri Lanka, etc.) but has spread to new areas, common mantis species across Asia known for its jumping ability, cryptic coloration (mimicking dead leaves), and relatively small size (40-80mm), often called "small mantis" in Japan (ko-kamakiri) and Korea (joem-sa-ma-gui), and recognized by its distinct forefemoral spots. It's a timid, yet adaptable mantis, sometimes found in captivity and has even appeared as an invasive species in Russia.
